How can a dead body come back to life? At the funeral home the distance between life and death is one breath. No matter how much instruction is given to the corpse, “Just breath and you will be alive.” That body cannot breath because it is dead.
Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2:1 “As for you, you were dead in your sins in which you used to live.” Sin is the word that is best defined as self. We are born filled with self-interest and self-focus.
Polity is the word to describe how a church is governed. There is Congregational polity where all of the decisions of the church are made at congregational meetings where all of the members vote. There is Episcopal polity where a Bishop oversees a number of congregations and makes major decisions for the congregation. There is Presbyterian polity where the congregation elects representatives from the congregation to oversee the decisions of the local church.
Ephesians 1:16 I have not stopped giving thanks for you. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Some think of God as an absent landlord. Others visualize him as absentminded. Still others see God as absent without leave. Few believe God has an active will and participates in our lives.
No matter how hard I try to be good there is something in me that knows I have never been good enough. I haven’t been good enough to deserve my family. I haven’t been good enough to deserve the gift of life.
